In the early 1940's Pete & Mabel Sawyer obtained the land, on which they built Oakview Lodge, from the then Premier, Leslie Frost. This property had been designated to be held inperpetuity for the use of cottagers for camping and parking. Some cottagers fought the sale of this public land, but were unsuccessful. Thus came about the existence of Oakview Lodge. Pete was a fishing and hunting guide and Mabel cooked the meals and took care of the lodge. They owned Oakview Lodge until 1973, when Pete's health started to deteriorate. The lodge has changed hands numerous times over the years.
