The Highlands of Haliburton provide the perfect backdrop for winter activities. Choose your passion…snowmobile, cross country ski,
downhill ski, dog sled, skate, ice fish, snowshoe or luge. All are available either on-site or nearby.
Snowmobiling
Oakview Lodge is located on
Haliburton County Snowmobile Association trail #4 which is part of the 640 kilometres of groomed trails in Haliburton county on the cusp of the 1000+ kilometres of groomed trails in the Muskoka Snowmobile Region. We offer snowmobile packages on our Packages and Specials page.
Cross Country Skiing
The Haliburton Nordic Trails are groomed and offer miles of scenic routes throughout Haliburton County. Close to Oakview are
The Leslie Frost Centre and Glebe Park. Oakview provides maps and printed information on all the local trails.
Dog Sledding
We collaborate with Winterdance and The Haliburton Forest to arrange dog sled tours for our guests. They offer half day, full day and moonlight tours. We make all the arrangements for our guests and assure an amazing experience for all. For dog sledding packages please refer to our Packages & Specials page.
Ice Fishing
Ice fishing is very popular in the Haliburton Highlands. We will gladly reserve a hut for you or, if you prefer to be out on the ice in the sun, you can walk right out on the lake in front of the lodge and cut your own hole. The hot chocolate and mulled wine will be ready when you return to the warmth of the lodge and while you’re warming up by the fire we’ll clean your catch of the day. Doesn’t get much better than that!
Snowshoeing
There are three snowshoe areas operating near Oakview Lodge - the Leslie Frost Centre, Moose Woods Recreational trails and Snowdon Park Preserve. Each offer scenic trails for outdoor enthusiasts.
Luge
There is a recreational luge run in The Haliburton Forest and it is operated by Rebel’s Ridge luge club. It’s a natural track made of snow, unlike the Olympic runs which are made of ice. Sure to provide an adrenalin rush!
